Torremolinos
Torremolinos
There was a time when the municipality of Torremolinos was the epicentre of the Costa del Sol. As Marbella started to become the destination favoured by the aristocracy of Europe.
This area was simply a white-washed fishing village, but one that was already favoured by those seeking to sun themselves away from prying eyes. With Franco´s drive to encourage tourism, this was the area where the bikini-clad Swedish beauties started to arrive an kick-start the Costa del Sol as we know it today! Since then Torremolinos has been side-lined as the growth of the entire coast continued, but still today it remains well-known for it´s authentic Spanish character, which is charming in it´s own old-fashioned way, and also for it´s vibrant night life.
Today Torremolinos is known particularly for its numerous bars and clubs catering to the LGBT community. Torremolinos co-hosted World Pride in 2017 in conjunction with Madrid and holds its own Pride in June, now the third largest in Spain.
